The majority of the outdoor textile industry has committed itself to more environmentally friendly production. While some companies are setting trends, others are turning their entire business model upside down. The aim of minimising their own ecological footprint is the same for all of them. The approaches to implementing this are diverse, creative and ambitious.
It is no longer just about selling the lightest product, but also about creating sustainable processes without sacrificing functionality and design freedom. But how exactly are companies doing this? Possible measures affect transport routes, the choice of raw materials or the company building itself. A detailed look behind the scenes of three of the leading textile suppliers:
Löffler
99% of production in Europe
70% of all fabrics used are produced in the company's own embroidery workshop in Ried.
100% recycled fibres in all PrimaLoft® GOLD jackets

Commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate-neutral production in the factories
‘Löffler is not only a brand, but also a producer. The production of the fabrics is an example of how we want to make endurance athletes better, both as athletes and as consumers. The two pillars of performance and responsibility are what set us apart.’ – Otto Leodolter, CEO

COL BECCHEI HYBRID JACKET
When it gets really cold and windy, the COL BECCHEI HYBRID JACKET is the perfect companion. A mix of natural and synthetic fibres protects against stormy weather, while the merino wool on the inside ensures optimal climate regulation. Other features include an elasticated hood and individually adjustable insulation.
The matching trousers for the BECCHEI JACKET impress with two side zips that make them easy to put on and take off – particularly practical when the weather changes. They also have a windproof front, a waterproof back and an elasticated waistband.
The Thermovent Hoody is made of 99% merino wool, which not only makes it particularly light, but also an expert at wicking away moisture. This base layer keeps the torso warm, provides ventilation and is particularly sustainable thanks to the loss-free flat knitting technique.
