Cuisine and enjoyment are very important in Styria. Several specialities and products with a protected designation of origin or geographical indication originate from the Austrian province. These include Ennstaler Steirerkas, Styrian scarlet runner bean, Styrian pumpkin seed oil and Styrian horseradish. Steirerkas is a sour milk cheese and is considered the only crumbly cheese in the Alps.
Wine also plays an important role. The geographical location and landscape of the province provide ideal conditions for winegrowing. The South Styrian Wine Route, for example, is very well known. Incidentally, Schilcher comes from Styria and its production has a long tradition there.
The thermal spa landscape is also extremely diverse. Some of Austria's most popular thermal spas are located in Styria, for example Bad Radkersburg, Loipersdorf, Bad Blumau and Bad Waltersdorf. There are 6 thermal spas around the provincial capital of Graz alone, although the mineralisation of the thermal water differs in all of them.
We look forward to your visit to Styria!

Due to the diverse landscape conditions, Styria in Austria is home to a wide variety of ski resorts. The lifts on the Turracher Höhe and the Kreischberg, along with the Lachtal ski area, are among the highest in Styria. Schladming is well known for its 4-mountain ski area Hauser Kaibling, Planai, Hochwurzen and Reiteralm. The Tauplitz is a popular single ski area, while the Loser, Ramsau - Dachstein and the Riesneralm shine with their beginner and family friendliness.
In general, most ski resorts in Styria are very snow-sure. This applies in particular to the Turracher Höhe, Kreischberg, Lachtal and the Schladming am Dachstein region. The Tauplitz, Riesneralm and Planneralm are also at high altitude. The latter, for example, is known for its excellent natural snow management and the correspondingly grippy snow quality. Thanks to modern snowmaking facilities, skiing is possible almost all winter long, even in the lower-lying ski areas.
Most ski resorts in Styria open their gates for skiing, snowboarding, freeriding etc. at the beginning of December. The season usually ends at the beginning of April.
